Respect your world - sports and politics

In NLP, we have the presuppositions. These are convenient assumptions or beliefs that govern my world and how I look at it.

They are very powerful, extremely tolerant and foregiving. One of it states that we need to "Respect Someone Elses' World". Respect does not mean that I need to accept someone's point of view, but I need to fully understand the person before I can form my own opinion or start working with him or her. And the requirement to understand the other person's model of the world is pretty hard, because we are all different. Every human is unique. We have our own values, beliefs, experiences, history, friends and families and more that influence us since we are born and may be before.

As a result, we experience the same situation differently (which can cause misunderstandings, of course). Just think about the last time you went to the movies with a friend or relative and later, talked about the movie. Did you start to have memories and interpretations that were different from each other? Did you not see something your friend saw so clearly? This is what I mean! We all react differently to different or even the same situation, and this is fine and makes us unique!

Malaysia as country with predominantly Islam population, and a country that does neither recognise Israel as country nor has diplomatic relations has recently lifted "a travel ban on Israelis to allow Chelsea coach Avram Grant and midfielder Tal Ben Haim to travel to the South East Asian nation in July as part of the English Premier League club's pre-season mini-Asian tour."

The foreign foreign minister Rais Yatim said that "although we don't have diplomatic relations with Israel or direct trade with the country, we don't have objections over their visit."

"They are a sports team with two Israeli members. We don't see it as something wrong."

This is what I mean by respecting other people. It does not mean that Malaysia tolerates or accepts what happens in Palestine. It doesn't mean that I am ignoring what is happening in the Gaza, neither from Israel nor from Palestine or Hamas. Neither do I ignore other countries in the neighbourhood - think of Iraq or Iran. To me, and now only, it is about sports and to have an excellent team playing in a country where there are many, many football fans.

To me, and this is my personal opinion, if there were more steps like this, it would bring the world a big step closer to solve certain issues, and break open hardened positions. Sport events combines hearts, and souls, can overcome disparity, bridge disagreements, and provide new insights. It can and should provide learning - think of what could be done during such event? Education of fans, exhibitions, cultural exchanges, discussion groups, food festival and much more. And not just from one side, but from both. Let's learn how sports can overcome gaps and helps cross bridges.

I know that this might not be a popular decision or opinion, but so be it!
