Number of accidents increasing
According to the NST, the number of accidents increased, while total number of fatalities decreased. The NST attributes this to a higher usage of helmets or seatbelts.
May be this is a correct assumption, may be it is not.
Fact, to me is, that there is a huge number of drivers on the road, who totally disregard any aspect of civil driving, whatever I mean by that.
Cutting lines, pushing the way into a lane, speeding and overtaking recklessly. Look, there are more than 1,000 accidents a day!! It has nothing to do with increased traffic, bad roads or similar, as often put forward. It simply is the behaviour of the individual driver who causes accidents - may I say, who actually choses to cause accidents? -because of a variety of reasons. It might be lack of experience, or impatience, but ultimately, a driver is the one sitting in the car and stirring the wheel.
While I hope that the number of accidents declines, I am really looking forward to the discussion that surely will commence from tomorrow onwards about the different reasons behind the accidents. And I seriously wonder, if there is anyone who says - it is us, who is responsible and I want to change my behaviour. Because, hey - changing behaviour is easy, isn't it?
