Smile, an ever lasting smile
It is not difficult to smile I believe. And a smile can change attitudes and motivate. Don't you agree?
The receptionist in the company today was friendly. But somehow, she appeared to be stressed. Especially during lunch hours, when her colleague was not around. The one attending to the phones was a bit harrassed, because she actually had to walk two or three steps from her chair to the next chair.
Every now and then, she sighed. Her voice, while talking on the phone, sounded pressured. The person on the other side of the phone doesn't know that she is pressured, but might believe that the receptionist is angry or stressed out with him or her. Not good.
A company's value chain starts at the reception, or with the one, who is in the frontline, answering the phone. If something goes wrong there, well, a perception can be changed. No company can afford this to happen.
Food for thoughts: Make sure that your receptionist is exactly attuned to the caller. That she understands, fully, what she is suppose to say. And even while she might not be the highest income earner in a company, she is one of the most important people a caller or visitor gets in contact with. so, it is more than just a smile. It can be an ever lasting smile :), in the heart of the caller or visitor.
