Do you lie?
Do you lie?
Did you ever lie?
What happened when you lied? How did you feel when you knew the lie came out? Be it a lie to your wife, husband, children, boss, friends, whatever?
It feels awkward, doesn't it? Humans don't like to lie. And, it is easy to pick up a lie. Verbal communication or words make up only 7% of our communication, while 38% comes from tonality and a whopping 55% from our physiology.
So, how did your body feel, when you lied? Did you voice sounded differently? In addition, did you look away, because the eyes tell the truth?
More and more neuorscience points to the fact that we can pick up the emotions from others. It is inside of us as well, coming from mirror neurons - when you do something, I can feel it inside (also called deep rapport). This is why we smile, when a baby smiles, or why we feel so sad, when someone around us is sad.
Now, it has been found in a recent study that in the UK (and don't even think that this doesn't apply to you and your country!) more than four out of five people admit to telling little white lies at least once a day and the preferred way of being "economical with the truth" is to use technology such as cell phones, texts and e-mails.
Now, why do you think that is so? Because, reading a SMS or receiving a mail, well, it is only the 7% of the communication that we receive. The sender might feel bad but it is hardly possible for the recipient to feel the lie.
Interested for some more tech data? Here it is:
"The top lie was pretending to be ill (43 percent) followed by saying work had been completed when it hadn't (23 percent). Worryingly for bosses 18 percent said they lied to hide a big mistake. over 40 percent said they had lied to their family or partner. Key topics to lie about were; buying new clothes or the cost of them (37 percent), how good someone looked in something (35 percent) how much they had eaten (35 percent) and drunk (31 percent) and how much they weighed (32 percent)."
But at least the intention is right because, well, most of the respondents didn't like to make the other feel bad - yeah right, or don't they just want to feel better themselves?
