A tainted picture of Malaysia

As I said yesterday, my mum had a great time in Malaysia and really appreciated all the situations were Malaysians were of help.

She departed two days ago at midnight.

I had a conversation with her last night and sadly, someone opened and searched her luckage. Nothing is missing but the lock to close the bag and a belt that hold it together. Still, it is the intrusion into private stuff that bothers me.

She believes that it was a "secret" security check of the luckage - she bought a statue of KLCC and thinks that in the scanner it might have looked like a bomb.

I don't believe this, knowing and reading about other stories.

If Malaysia really looks forward to receiving more tourists KLIA and Kuala Lumpur needs to improve. There are still too many little things - minor and major (major is this one!) that go astray.

I remember many years ago the customs at JB used to search your car for "illegal" things purchased from Singapore. This included telephones, etc. If they found a new high tech fixed line phone in your car, it gets confiscated. No idea where it goes. Maybe they take it home for themselves. Very rude indeed.

Well, at least they didn't open the bag to steal stuffs. I never put any of my valuables in my check-in luggages. Always hand carry them.

I believe it's worst in the US, especially if the passenger has 'bin' or 'mohamed' in his name.

Well, things like that do take place here at the airports.

For all the media hype that we are used to hearing and witnessing, deep down, we have to be always on the watchout not be get ripped off at places like the airports, train stations, bus stations, shopping malls, etc.

The nation is being infiltrated by petty criminals both local and foreign in larger numbers today.

None would come forward to help you out in public today for fear of getting harmed themselves in the process of being a good samaritan as there have been cases of such good hearted souls getting killed in the act of trying to help victims.

Until and unless you are in a position to fend for yourself and able in self defence arts and techniques.

Who can you trust in situations like in the airports?

There has been numerous cases of theft of passengers belongings by the very people who are paid to watch out for the passengers baggages etc like the airport baggage handlers and others!

Such criminals do exist here and corrective measures aren't really being carried out in the truest sense of the word for I understand it is not a one person crime syndicate!

Just learn from the sad experience and buy better security efficient baggage for your travellings.
